Since my last instalment of blog on ketogenic diet, the question of probiotics and prebiotics came up. While our diet has significant impact on our gut flora, there are other factors as well.
Did you know that we have over 3 trillion bacteria in our gut that work synergistically with the body? Yes, there are more bacterial cells than human cells.
The good bacteria help to protect us from the harmful bacteria by keeping them in check. The good bacteria also help to regulate inflammation and produce useful substances like vitamin K and short-chain fatty acids (e.g. butyrate) that helps to protect our intestinal lining.
